In our recent class, we discussed God's plan for order within the family and how sticking to His design can overcome ungodly order that leads to problems.
We started by establishing that God created an intentional order - first God the Father, then Christ, then man, and finally woman (1 Corinthians 11:3). Though equal in value, men and women have different roles and responsibilities.
When this order is disrupted, ungodly order sets in opening the door for issues. For example, when women try to take on roles they were not designed for or when men fail to cover and lead their households properly. Some potential consequences we discussed included:
Confusion and learning disabilities in children
Gender confusion
Various physical and mental illnesses
So how can we combat ungodly order? The key is aligning to God's pattern for the family:
"Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord...The husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church...Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her...Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." (Ephesians 5:22-23, 25, 6:4)
Additional ways to overcome ungodly order:
Recognize God's correct design for order (1 Cor 11:3)
Repent of agreeing with the wrong way of order
Forgive those who did not model Godly order
Give each other time and grace to grow
Communicate openly and repentantly
The key is that both husbands and wives must submit themselves to God first and foremost. When we align with His design, we will begin to walk in blessing and order. Through the power of Jesus, families can be restored!
